About the Program
- Dr. Nick Vorsa initiated a Rutgers cranberry program in 1985 to improve yield, fruit quality, and genetic diversity of cranberries. Under the direction of Dr. Vorsa, the goal was to breed cranberries to “identify superior parents of diverse genetic background, to produce superior progeny with improved traits.”
About the Breeds
Rutgers cranberries , the cranberry industry relied on only a few widely used varieties with a narrow genetic base(1).

- Rutgers patented cranberry varieties are available to commercial cranberry growers in the United States and Canada (Growers interested in Rutgers cranberries can click here to obtain a license from Rutgers University.)
- Rutgers is not currently selling this cranberry variety directly to the public
